Thanks to everyone concerned, and particularly to the farmers and workers of the Seattle Wholesale Growers Marketplace for donating the freshest, most beautiful, domestically-grown elements for American Flowers Week.
In the approaching weeks, we’ll release extra pictures and background tales about how this gown came together. The process was so satisfying – it reminded me somewhat of growing a photograph, in that the color changed as it dried, or of paintings (my past love). Then I just couldn’t stop playing with colors and attempting to determine what else I could use. I made Numerous errors, in fact – lots of horrid browns – but each time I happened across something new and lovely it felt like a personal discovery and that I nonetheless can’t get enough of it.
I love how a few of colors marble and seem to seize that moment in time, reasonably like a watercolor painting, and dealing with silk is simply very deeply satisfying to me. I like making something stunning by hand, wrapping it up like a gift and sending it off worldwide.

Debra Prinzing will present: “American Beauty: Slow Flowers, Seasonal Floral Design, and Eco-Friendly Techniques” The workshop consists of a brief lecture, followed by a demonstration and palms-on eco-design workshop. The Slow Flowers story went to Des Moines, Iowa, in April, hosted by the Wonder of Words Festival on the downtown Des Moines Public Library. It was so fitting that I spoke about regionally-grown flowers and the Slow Flowers Movement on Earth Day!
